Tudorose Poodles - Has Standards To Maintain
Herding

A well-trained herding dog works in partnership with her handler and obeys commands to perform her job. In essence, it is a form of teamwork where the dog controls the stock but YOU control the dog.  Properly trained, the dog is able to move the stock just about anywhere. Good herding dogs control stock with calm authority and without excessive "commotion."

Many of the Tudorose Poodles have passed Herding Instinct Tests.  It is a great thrill for their owners to see unquestionable herding instinct displayed by their poodles at an Instinct Test.   Some of the Tudorose Poodles have carried on past the instinct test level in herding and we will talk about two of them.

CT Tudorose Bold Reign UDTX, VST, AX, AXJ, RE, JH, WCX, JHD, CGC, VCDIII, VIP VCX, HTADs1

Reigner is the first standard poodle in North America to get a Herding Trial Title (Herding Trial Arena Dog Sheep).  He is a wonderfully versatile boy who has titles in just about every type of event a poodle can title in as you can see above.
Here Reigner is first a) collecting his sheep, then b) bringing them to his owner Carol,

then c) getting them to stay in the small corral until the gate is closed.

JO Whirlwinds Island Rook, Am and Cdn CD, RNMCL, PCA WC, HT (Herding Tested)

Here is what Rook's Owner (Cheryl) has to say after Rook passed her first Herding test to get her Herding Tested title.
"Yesterday and today, Rook passed two trials and earned the entry level CKC Herding title called Herding Tested.......roughly the equivalent of a CD or WC. I believe that she is the first Poodle in Canada to get a herding title.

We are all smiles here in Southern Ontario.........Rook worked well....I made several stupid handler errors but Rook covered for me and together we put our sheep through their paces!!! She was the only non-herding dog at the trial and I have to say that the herding group were very accepting and supportive.....we got a round of applause after each run.

I am sending you a picture with the 2 judges...Cdn judge on the left...American judge on the right.....goofy looking person with large brown hat in the middle is me......Rook is grinning and looking pretty pleased with herself.

Cheryl and Rook.....er...sorry.....typo error.....she doesn't want to be called Rook anymore....she wants to be known as sheep dog Sweep."

Herding Instinct Tests:

Many of the Tudorose Poodles have taken part in and passed Herding Instinct Tests.

Here is a whole gang of happy poodles and handlers at a December 2006 VIP (Versatility in Poodles) herding instinct test. (Approximately eleven Tudorose poodles took part)
